the makamhane autumn events consist of workshops, public rehearsals, concerts, integrative projects and lectures. New activities will start as well. As usual master musicians will make their contribution in teaching and presenting the makam-music styles to guarantee a high qualitative standard.  We are looking forward to announce the visit of Neyzen Ömer Erdoğdular, who finally recovered after a serious accident.
As 2008 is declared as the Year of dialog by the EU, the makamhane will host a whole series of events focusing on the theme ?culture- language and music? to engage even more into different forms of dialog. More information t.b.a. winter/spring 2008.
All events are taking place in the makamhane, Römergasse 21, 1160 Wien. Exceptions will be announced separately.

Calender:

Beginning on 16th Oct., 20-22.30, every tuessday  
public rehearsal of classical turkish makam music in
the makamhane; no rehearsal on 27.11., last: 18.12.

1.11.-4.11., Ney-Workshop with Ömer Erdoğdular.
Master musician, Neyzen from Istanbul. He will conduct the participants through a wide range of the classical repertoire with incomparable mastery.
Fee: 200.- Euro;

9.11.-11.11., Oud-Workshop with Necati Çelik.
The Nr.1 of Turkish Oud. He teaches with great skill and knowledge and introduces varieties of improvisation techniques. Fee: 150.- Euro;

10.11., 20.30, Lecture and practical Introduction to makamtheory. The focus will be on the Uşşak Makam Group, by Necati «elik. Fee: 20.-Euro;

26.11. 10-16.00, 27.11. 10-12.00, 14-16.00,
Rebab-Workshop with Oruç Güvenç.
The Rebab is one of the oldest makam instruments and has a unique flavour of sound. This ?ancient violin? will be thought by Master Oruç Bey in the traditional method
of the makam-music tradition Fee: 120.-Euro;

3.12.20.30, "His Masters Voice" one evening per month is dedicated to a master of makam-music. We listen to and study recordings and sheet music from Ottoman Song-books which cover 500years of music tradition and life art.

7.12.- 9.12., Dombra-Workshop
with Mustafa Buyurgan. Coming from Kazakhstan, his playing shows the affinity towards nature and the ancient tradition of the central Asian Instrument. His Playing and teaching are direct and evoke emotional responses.

19.12., 19.00, Introduction Evening to circle work
We use the circle as a tool to build a different relation to music. The approach includes different techniques and principles such as rhythmical exercises, Bodywork, Circulations, Cultivation and Division and Use of Attention. Prior musical experience or Instrumental skill are not requiered.
We attempt to include instruments, however, the evening is open of unfold itself according to the needs of the group. Please bring comfortable clothes and a Blanket with you.

There are ongoing lessons for turkish Ney, Oud, Kanun and arabic Darbuka offerd in the makamhane. For more information, please contact us.
